ENCARNACION

Founded in 1615, the city of Encarnacion is located on the banks of the Parana River at the extreme south of Paraguay. Paraguayans call Encarnacion the " Pearl of the South " because of its benign climate.

The city comprises two distinct zones. The High Zone, which is modern, constituting the financial center of the city, and the Lower Zone which is more popular due to its commercial attractions and easy access to the Parana River.
Encarnacion has approximately 32 000 inhabitants.

A walk in the neighbourhoods of the old port is also recommended. It is the most popular place of the city and it is not rare to listen to people speaking Ukranian since there is a numerous colony of emigrants that settled there from that country at the turn of the century.

Encarnacion is also one of the starting points to pay a visit to the famous Jesuit Mission ruins. the Missions Jesuits.

Encarnacion is connected to the Argentine city of Posadas Argentina by the bridge of San Roque Gonzales.
