A bit of history.....

In all certainty, it was a hot and sunny day, as it nearly always is in Paraguay, when, on that memorable August 15, 1537, the peace in the domains of the Guarani Indians abruptly ended. White skinned men, dressed in strange gowns, approached in ships on the grand river Paraguay and naming the place on which they were now setting their feet: "Casa Fuerte Nuestra Seno-ra de la Asuncion ' (as the date of their arrival coincided with the Catholic celebration of the 'Assumption of Maria").

The newly arrived explorers consisted of an imposing armed expedition made up by 11 vessels and 2500 soldiers sent by Spain to conquer the "countries of La Plata". Two of these vessels had dared to undertake a voyage deep into the interior, penetrating profoundly in its territories. And now, they had disembarked, having given a name to the place and gave the impression that they were there to stay...
